Familiy Activities

May has been a busy month for many of us with Graduations and an early Memorial Day weekend. I have been consumed with my son’s graduation from high school and daughter moving home and have not had a minute to spare!

Right now there are no Family activities on the calender for June and I will inform you of what’s on the agenda after our planning meeting  this week.

Anyone who might have a suggestion for camping location please contact me.

Family Activities Report

Mothers Day Spaghetti Dinner will be Saturday Night May 10 starting after the 5:30  Mass.
Please come and volunteer  to set -up, serve or to help with clean -up
Also bring Mom and any friends or GrandMa’s to join us as we always have a great time.
We are going to do a Rockies Baseball game this Summer.
I am thinking a night game would be a fun change and we will pick a date later.
Anyone who wants to help with the planning please contact me.
It’s also time to Plan several outdoor activities.
My big interest would be a Overnight Camping / Fishing Trip. We are looking for a good location! If anyone has access to any Private land or knows a camping area that we could reserve. (less than an Hour for Denver would be great) let me know. Any opportunity that includes a place to Fish would also be good for the kids.
Also / or – We have many great trails to hike in Douglas and Jefferson County. Please contact me if you want to help organize or participate in a day hike, I will gladly accept volunteers to assist with these projects.

Third, we would like to do a Family Bike Ride on the Cherry Creek trail. There is some great riding from the parking lot at Cottonwood, South to Franktown. If you have’nt ridden this trail it is very fun and well laid out. Road, Mountain or 1 speed/ Cruiser bikes will work. We can all meet and choose to go out and back. 5 or 10 mile option exist with no roads to cross and light walker/ jogger traffic. All ages can participate.

Fund Raising:
Also, I spoke with Father Jim and he wants The Knights (us) to think of some additional fund raisers. We have an opportunity to help with the Parish Carnival coming up in June. Father Jim wants to do a Beer Garden and we all need to reach out to anyone who has anything to do with Craft Beer, to donate.
For the Carnival I am going to set up a Family Activity fund raiser. One thought is something exciting, like a “Cake Walk”. This would fit into the carnival theme nicely. Again, I need some creative volunteers to make this a success. I will contact the Carnival commitee and get us a Booth/ space and check with the Lady Nights for a conflict with a Bake Sale. We have plenty of people in the Council who could bring a homemade cake for donation. If we got 15 cakes I think we could raise $500.   VOLUNTEERS??
Again, many of you have asked for ways to help me out with the activities planning and putting together events for the Family Activity Commitee. Give me a call and let’s have some FUN!!
Your humble servant,
Bill Hensen – Family Activity Director

2013 Family Activities

During 2013 the family Activity committee was responsible for putting together several large events that brought the Knights families together.
By far the largest effort was the Spring and Fall Spaghetti Dinners hosted in the Great Hall. At these events 60-80 people attended and besides a hardy meal there was plenty of socializing and a chance for everyone to catch up with each other’s family business.
We also host the annual Christmas Party where we have a beautiful “Pot -Luck ” dinner and a visit from Santa.
Beside these events the other activities were the annual Air Force football game and Rockies Father Day game.
This year we organized a family hike to the Devil’s Head Fire Tower and had a small group of 10 participate in the afternoon hike. Also as a “new ” event this year we held a Bronco Game party (unfortunately they lost to San Diego) with a Pot –Luck, on a Sunday night.
The wonderful thing about being the director of this committee is that for each of these events, an amazing number of volunteers make the event happen and must be given the credit for pulling off the event. I am truly blest to be able to work with the selfless men and families who always seem to know how to make these events come together.
I sincerely want to thank everyone who gets involved to make these events a success. testing? Continue reading 2013 Family Activities
