Church Director’s Report for September 2014 Newsletter
Although the five Sundays of August 2014 were in Ordinary Time, the Knights Church Directorate sought to make things special. We improved Knights Donuts by kicking things up a notch with designer donuts (e.g.,“turtles” – chocolate cake, chocolate icing, pecans and caramel; and Easter egg-inspired yellow cake, chocolate icing and coconut). We note that except for the Bismarks and cinnamon twists, all our donuts are diet donuts – they have holes.
Thanks to Matt Maranto, Knights Donutsnowhasa banana tree and serves upgraded Tang with real orange slices in a more attractive container. Matt was in charge on August 3, and ran Moms Group Donuts on August 17. I was in charge on August 10, and want to thank Pete Flatten and daughter McKenna for their help and companionship on that and other Sundays. Larry Call ran things on Labor Day Week-end Sunday. Art Myers remains our constant companion.
Our third Beer & Brats, on August 16, was the best of the summer. We had great weather, so everything was outside. Our costs were less than expected, and we received over $400.00 in donations. Parishioners consumed over 200 portions and we had less than a dozen hot dogs left over. Wine provided by John Starke, home-made ice cream served by Joe Regnery, and bountiful side dishes and desserts donated by the Ladies Auxiliary and other parishioners, ensured that this was no ordinary Beer & Brats.
The Church Directorate will continue to be busy this Fall. Knights Donuts is scheduled for September 14 and 21, and we’re helping the Stephen Ministry serve on September 7. Beer & Brats IV, on September13, is usually our biggest of the year. We’re also looking forward to October, the Month of the Rosary, when the Knights will be distributing Guide to Saying the Rosary pamphlets.
